City Arts Space: A Manifesto to Softness

A Manifesto To Softness
by Effie Windberg
City Arts Space 10 – 16 April 2019

A Manifesto To Softness celebrates and captures the moments when we feel most ‘soft’.

Using the intimate mediums of portrait photography and poetry, this exhibition explores how we experience softness through sensations, in particular places, towards others and within ourselves. Audio of selected participants’ discussions with the artist – recorded prior to being photographed – encourages viewers to reflect on what the concept of softness means to them, and provides an insight into the artists’ creative theory.

Effie Windberg is an emerging multidisciplinary artist, respected community organiser and mother to a four-year-old child, working and living on Walyalup land (Fremantle, Western Australia). Windberg uses film photography, analogue collage and poetry to reflect upon the workings of the subconscious mind, and to explore how societal expectations affect who we are, how we think, and how we express and understand ourselves. This is her first exhibition.

The digital exhibition augments the walled exhibition at the City Arts Space;
special screenings for the duration of the exhibition, 10 – 16 April 2019, Northbridge Piazza Screen.
