Each year, Propel Youth Arts WA sends out over 150 blank sketchbooks to young people from the ages of 12 to 25 across Western Australia.
Participants are asked to fill their sketchbooks with anything that takes their fancy, resulting in pages brimming with rich and colourful sketches, collage, cut-outs, painting and poetry; fragments of lives, thoughts and imaginations.
Displayed together, these little books represent pieces of the wider youth community of Western Australia, important voices that speak to the future development of our state and society.
The digital screen exhibition features selected pages from this year’s sketchbooks and provides a rare and intriguing glimpse into the minds, hopes and aspirations of Western Australian youth.
The Sketchbook Project is a community-led conversation, presented by Propel Youth Arts WA, the Department of Local Government and Communities, and the State Library of Western Australia.
First exhibited during the KickstART Festival in celebration of National Youth Week, the books then embark on a statewide tour of regional and suburban libraries for the next year.
Screening daily in April – May 2019, Perth Cultural Centre Screen.
