This exhibition explores the poster artwork that has been associated with the International Women’s Day celebrations in Australia throughout history. The 8th of March has been celebrated by women for more that a hundred years and offers us a necessary reflection on the state of gender equality, sexual discrimination and reproductive rights. These colourful handmade posters trace the style and concerns of the women’s liberation movement in Australia.
This collection of posters comes from the Jesse Street National Women’s Library in Sydney. Jessie Street National Women’s Library is a unique specialist library dedicated to the preservation of Australian women’s work, words and history.
