Exhibitions on Screen | Kari Kola, Lighting the Sound

In preparation for Kari Kola’s Light the Sound, the City of Perth Urban Screens offers a preview of the upcoming work with stunning, dramatic photographs from Kola’s recent international installations. Lighting the Sound is poised to transform Albany/Kinjarling’s natural coastline and landmarks into an immersive, meditative light experience over nine enchanting nights.

Presented by FORM and created in partnership with world-renowned Finnish light artist Kari Kola, and co-designed and led by Menang Elders and the Albany community, the lighting spectacular will be visible from key locations across Albany.

“Light is a really powerful tool and I believe that we can draw focus to any site, city, or value using light art. I plan to work on an unseen scale with unique sites and push the limits of light art into new dimensions. This will create a new level of impact in raising awareness on many topics.”     –   Kari Kola

The dramatic illumination of the landforms around King George Sound will draw attention away from the coast and towards the life-giving source of the Southern Ocean, the centre of so much ancestral, cultural, ecological, and historical significance.

Lighting the Sound runs from 13 to 29 March 2026. The digital screen prelude exhibits December to March 2026 Find out more at FORM
