This exhibition explores the poster artwork associated with International Women’s Day celebrations in Australia throughout history. The 8th of March has been celebrated by women for more than a hundred years and offers a necessary reflection on the state of gender equality, sexual discrimination, and reproductive rights. These colourful handmade posters trace the style and concerns of Australia’s women’s liberation movement.
This collection of posters comes from the Jesse Street National Women’s Library in Sydney. Jessie Street National Women’s Library is a unique specialist library dedicated to preserving Australian women’s work, words and history.
Screening: International Women’s Day March 8 | 7 pm & 11 pm
