Sunday March 10
Lead by Cuban migrant Arvis Mena, De Cuba Son perform exciting Cuban music incorporating traditional rhythms like Rumba, Son, Salsa and much more. Born in Havana, Arvis grew up listening to the sounds of many iconic bands such as Irakere and Buena Vista Social Club, plus all the Rumba played around his neighbourhood in Havana City. Since relocating to Western Australia, he has formed a wonderful band with some of the best Latin players around that are helping him shape the unique rhythmic sounds of De Cuba Son.
De Cuba Son are the first performance in the City of Perth’s four part Horizons Sunday Concert Series taking place 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st March 2019 in Northbridge Piazza, celebrating the cultural diversity of Western Australia.

Led by dazzling Indian sarod virtuoso Praashekh Borkar, The Praashekh Quartet push the edges of the Indian raga tradition into new and vibrant improvisational spheres. Borkar is considered one of India’s leading younger generation musicians, and is e-sarod is joined by Sivakumar Balakrishnan (tabla), Mark Cain (reed instruments), and Wayan Dana (bass).

Sunday March 24
East meets West with the beautiful Crystal Jade featuring Stella Huang on yangqin (Chinese hammer dulcimer), Merlin Ma on bamboo flute and Malcolm Mah on double bass. Together they perform an enchanting instrumental blend of traditional oriental music and contemporary Chinese pop tunes.

Soukouss Internationale Live
Soukouss Internationale showcase authentic energetic Congolese music and dance.
Led by Jamie Searle (guitar), the band features legendary Mozambican guitarist Mahamudo Selimane along with members from Odette Mercy’s Soul Atomics and the Askari Afrobeat Orchestra. With gorgeous vocalists and dynamic dancers, Soukouss International play dynamic African music guaranteed to get you moving.
Presented by the City of Perth, Soukouss Internationale appear as part of the Horizon Sunday Concert Series, a free twilight family friendly concert series celebrating the cultural diversity of Western Australia.
